'The Last Act' (2023)

This is an installation that explores the mistreatment of animals in the entertainment industry, with a focus on the use of wild animals in circuses. In this work, the remains of an elephant lay in the centre. This is to serve as a reminder  of the harm inflicted upon animals for our own amusement. A circus soundscape was played during the installation, along with flashing lights, as a contrast between fun and harsh reality. Origami elephants hung from the ceiling, and were to be opened by guests, containing actual cases of animals mistreatment in entertainment. The whole project came about, from a time I visited the circus as a little girl. I got to meet an elephant, called Anne, yet it later came out that the circus abused her; she was relocated to wildlife reserve. Overall, the project aimed to raise awareness about the inhumane treatment of animals in the entertainment industry.
