'Mother Nature' (2022)
Machine Embroidery and Fabric Manipulation.
Looking at ways that one can visualise data, I worked with embroidery on a machine to create this piece. Over the course of several days, I noted down the temperature of the day (at the same time each day) and the weather. From this, I assigned each temperature number to a colour of thread. I also assigned each weather type to a pattern, which could be made with the machine. After this, I pushed the project further by adding accompanying pieces. Using fabric manipulation techniques, and methods of deterioration, I was able to create a figure that seemed to have been weathered by the elements; this is akin to the impact humanity has upon the planet.
